Sometimes I wonder if cities go to the finest engineering schools to recruit
the students who are failing miserably. Don’t get me wrong, there are many
damn fine civil engineers out there, but some of the stupid crap that municipalities
allow in their jurisdictions is ridiculous. Good examples of comparison are the
Golden Gate Bridge (awesome) vs. the new San Francisco Bay Bridge (a nightmare
that is already having serious problems, and was mostly built in China).

Santa Clara, California has the WORST traffic signals in the bay area. There is
no excuse for this, and I waste a lot of fuel stopping and starting at every light
in this city. I must say though that their streets are the smoothest of all the
cities in the south Bay Area.
